Cosmetic injectables are a popular treatment choice by many men and women to address common skin concerns. Some examples of issues that it can help with are facial wrinkles, acne formation and scarring, dryness, thinning and sunspots. Cosmetic injectables help to achieve smoother, more rejuvenated and ultimately, youthful-looking skin.

Cosmetic Injectables: What Are They and How Do They Work

As we age, the body decreases its production of collagen and elastin, natural proteins that support the skin’s structure. Collagen helps make the skin firm, and elastin keeps it tight. Lack of these in the body results in skin sagging, thinning and difficulty combating the external factors that can cause other issues such as sun damage.

Cosmetic injectables are non-surgical treatments that involve injecting either natural or synthetic substances into the skin (e.g. harvested live fat cells, collagen, Hyaluronic acid (HA), Calcium hydroxylapatite, Poly-L-lactic Acid (PLLA). They should be administered ONLY by medical professionals trained in facial aesthetics and cosmetic injecting

Cosmetic Injectables: Treatments For Every Skin Concern

This treatment reduces the appearance of facial fine lines and wrinkles. It can also treat excessive underarm sweating. The Anti-Wrinkle procedure works by injecting a small amount of a purified protein into specific muscles of the body. The substance helps the muscles relax, allowing the skin to become smoother and have a rejuvenated appearance.

Dermal Filler

It is a non-invasive cosmetic injectables procedure that helps restore volume on the skin. Dermal Filler treatment can be used on the face, hands, earlobes, and more popularly, for lips augmentation to achieve more plumpness and definition. It involves injecting a synthetic sugar molecule that attracts moisture to the affected areas. It will then fill out the fine lines, restoring volume to your skin.

Platelet Rich Plasma

The procedure can address skin concerns such as scarring, stretch marks, wrinkling and hair loss, among many others. The Platelet Rich treatment involves extracting blood and separating the plasma, a light yellow liquid that carries water, salts and enzymes. The platelet-rich plasma is then injected into the deep dermal layers of your skin to stimulate new cell growth.

It causes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate your body’s natural wound healing process, while minimising cellular damage. The result is effective remodelling of scar tissue, while keeping the overall structure of the skin intact. There are three phases to the wound-repair process:
  • Phase I: Inflammation Piercing the skin triggers your immune system to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow and begin to create new tissue.
  • Phase II: Proliferation The wound is rebuilt with new granulation cells, which are part of the extracellular matrix. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.
  • Phase III: Remodelling The wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels.

This is because beneficial effects associated with this procedure rely upon the wound healing process within the skin which takes time, hence results may take this long to physically appear.
Depending on the individual, some patients may be able to resume normal activities following the procedure with others resuming normal activities the day after. The exception to this is exercise and activities that induce sweating and heat, as they may aggravate the skin post-procedure.

Skin Needling is generally suitable for all skin types, ages & colour. It is always best to discuss the use of any medical therapy with your aesthetically trained medical professional prior to treatment.
